Violet Wand Safety:
Violet wands are generally quite safe.
However, it is important to understand the risks involved any time electricity is used on the body.
The primary concern is what would happen if the wand itself malfunctioned and somehow passed electricity from the wall to the electrode.
To my knowledge this has never actually happened. But nobody wants to be the first to die because a wand failed. So I take a few precautions.
All of my electrodes are designed so that high current cannot pass through them. For example, AC current can't pass through glass so the nature of glass electrodes make's them quite safe. Other accessories such my indirect cables have spark gaps which allow sparks to pass through but not AC current.
The secondary concern is with the business end of the wand. Metals such as piercings will heat up if the sparks should pass through them for a length of time. Similarly, plastic materials such as stockings can melt.
That doesn't mean you can't enjoy violet wand play if you have piercings or exotic clothing. But these things should be kept in mind when these materials are present.
TENS Safety:
The only real concern with a TENS unit is preventing current from passing through the heart. These devices can cause muscle contractions.
For beginners, the rule of thumb is to keep all electrodes below the waste. I generally follow that rule myself at events or when stimulating someone new.
It's fairly safe to stimulate someone's abs though. You can even stimulate nipples but you have to be sure they're wired in a way that the current doesn't pass between them. Placing both electrodes from the same channel on each nipple would be dangerous. Putting an electrode on each side of the same nipple would be ok however.
To my knowledge, no one has ever died or had heart complications due to using a TENS. But again, nobody wants to be the first. So most people using TENS for pleasure follow these precautions.
